Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts | 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

• Provide general medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population with diagnoses including COPD, diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease, GI disorders, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders
• Perform patient assessments, develop care plans, and facilitate inter-professional communication
• Manage IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips, wound vacs, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and feeding pumps
• Utilize Epic EHR, Pyxis, Hospira IV pumps, AccuCheck blood glucose monitoring, and telemetry monitoring equipment
• Support patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries
• Float to other medical units as needed; expected patient ratio of 1:5–6

Required Qualifications

• Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20) required
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required
• Minimum 1.5 years of RN experience in a Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care setting
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical experience at a large hospital (450+ beds)
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
• Experience managing complex drips, chest tubes, and wound vac therapy in an acute care environment
• Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and VTE prevention protocols
