Short Stay Registered Nurse

Location

San Luis Obispo, CA | Outpatient Surgery

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Full-Time | Days | Monday–Friday | 3×12-hour shifts | Start times vary (5:00 AM, 7:00 AM, or 8:00 AM) | 6-week schedules provided in advance | No call required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide pre- and post-operative care for infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients across a variety of health care needs and disease processes
• Assess patients, identify abnormal diagnostic data, and report findings to appropriate personnel in a fast-paced outpatient surgery environment
• Recognize and respond to symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other impending emergencies
• Accurately interpret ECG rhythms and manage patient care during life-threatening emergencies across all populations served
• Demonstrate knowledge of lead functions and application, making recommendations for optimal monitoring based on patient presentation
• Delegate patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor — Required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA or ARC) — Required
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (AHA or ARC) — Required
• Associate Degree in Nursing (A.S.) or equivalent — Required
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Pre-Op or Perioperative nursing (OR experience does not qualify)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
• Minimum 6 months of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last 2 years
• Minimum 1 year of experience in pre- and post-operative diagnostic cath lab settings
• Completion of a basic cardiac arrhythmia class with a passing score
