Registered Nurse – Surgical Day Care

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions, plans of care, and patient goals in a Surgical Day Care setting
• Perform pre-admission testing, nursing assessments, blood draws, and EKGs for patients undergoing day surgery
• Review pre-operative orders, consult with surgeons and anesthesiologists as needed, and verify completeness of pre-operative charts including consents, H&Ps, and lab results
• Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy; assess and reassess patient pain levels and communicate abnormalities to the appropriate physician prior to surgery
• Provide patient and family education based on identified learning needs and collaboratively prepare patients for discharge incorporating appropriate support systems
• Initiate and document post-operative phone calls to Surgical Day Care patients and ensure thorough, accurate documentation of all interventions and patient responses

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Minimum one year of acute care nursing experience
• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required
• Current ACLS and PALS certifications required
• Proficiency in peripheral IV insertion and nursing assessment required

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior experience in Surgical Day Care, Pre-Admission Testing, Endoscopy, or Operating Room settings
• IV certification preferred
