Key Responsibilities

• Maintains accountability for ensuring the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria
• Maintains the sterile field and ensures a safe environment, including recognition and management of sharps and fire safety processes
• Prepares the operating room and instruments for the surgical procedure; may assist with sterile processing
• Assists the surgeon(s) during the procedure while staying within the ORT scope of practice
• Identifies emergency situations and exercises judgment when implementing appropriate response procedures
• Assists with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation for the next procedure upon completion

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician (ORT) program; OR graduation from a non-accredited surgical tech program within the past six (6) months; OR two (2) years of scrub tech experience in hospital or military surgical services within the last three (3) years
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers required
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a sterile field and ensure environmental safety
• Knowledge of surgical services and sterile processing principles
• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations within the surgical setting

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Active National Certification as an ORT in Surgery
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential
