Registered Nurse – SICU / TICU (Surgical & Trauma ICU)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts beginning at 6:45 AM (nights) | Every other weekend required | Holidays rotate with core staff

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a Surgical ICU (SICU) and/or Trauma ICU (TICU) setting, with the possibility of floating between units depending on census
• Manage complex postoperative and trauma patients including vascular surgeries (fem-pop, EVARs, CEA), thoracic surgeries, open abdominal surgeries, and all trauma cases
• Operate and monitor advanced equipment including ventilators, CRRT, ECMO, IABP, and rapid infusers; perform and assist with line placements
• Read and interpret EKG/telemetry strips as a routine component of patient monitoring
• Participate in bedside shift report, self-scheduling, and interdisciplinary rounds (days); collaborate with on-site Hospitalist/Intensivist, RT (24/7), and Pharmacy (24/7)
• Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1–1:2; 1:1 for IABP and donor patients in TICU

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in California
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR
• Minimum 1–2 years of ICU experience with a surgical or trauma patient population
• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility within the CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity Health system within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms may be considered

Preferred Experience / Skills

• TNCC certification preferred for TICU assignments
• Experience with CRRT, ECMO, IABP, and/or rapid infuser management
• Background with vascular surgical patients (CEA, fem-pop, EVARs, laparotomies, thoracic procedures)
• Prior trauma ICU experience strongly preferred for TICU float assignments
