Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Days with rotation to nights | Mix of 8-hour (0700–1530) and 12-hour (0700–1930) shifts | Days vary, no set schedule | Weekend requirement: 2–3 shifts per 6-week schedule period (Saturday or Sunday) | Call requirement: 3–4 weekday and 3–4 weekend call shifts (4 hours each) per 6-week schedule | Holiday and night rotation as needed
Key Responsibilities
- Provide perioperative nursing care across a high-volume OR environment supporting 70–85 cases per day across 28 OR rooms operating 24/7/365
- Deliver care across multiple service lines including orthopedics (total joints), general surgery, robotics, organ transplant (kidney), ENT, oral/maxillofacial, vascular/thoracic, urology, and pediatrics
- Participate in team self-scheduling for shifts and call assignments
- Fulfill weekend OR coverage supporting 7–8 rooms on Saturdays and 5–6 rooms on Sundays, primarily urgent and some scheduled cases
- Rotate to night shifts and participate in holiday coverage as required by the unit
- Document patient care accurately using Epic EMR
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in Virginia or compact state eligibility
- BLS certification required – must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Minimum 2 years of OR experience, including Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience
- Prior travel nursing experience required; this cannot be a first travel assignment (minimum 1–2 prior travel assignments)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Neonate and pediatric OR experience strongly preferred
- Experience with robotics-assisted surgical cases
- Familiarity with organ transplant or vascular/thoracic surgical service lines
