Registered Nurse – Oncology

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Days (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) | Every other weekend required | Holidays rotate with staff

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct inpatient nursing care on a 29-bed oncology floor, managing patient ratios of 1:5 (occasionally 1:6)
• Care for patients presenting with acute oncology symptoms including thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, sickle cell crisis, hematology conditions, and end-of-life care
• Monitor patients via central telemetry system (strip reading not required)
• Collaborate with a charge nurse (staffed outside the grid) and nurse aide support (typically 3 per shift)
• Accept outpatient oncology patients to the floor to complete treatment when the outpatient area closes
• Float rarely to medical acute unit as needed

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing
• Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience required
• At least 1 prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
• BLS certification required
• Proficiency with Meditech EMR
• Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• NIHSS certification preferred
• ONS (Oncology Nursing Society) chemotherapy certification preferred; minimum 2 years of oncology experience required if administering chemotherapy
• Experience with hematology and end-of-life patient populations
