Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Observation)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | 13 Weeks | 12-Hour Night Shifts (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM) | Expected 36 hours/week (48-hour contracts may be available upon request; overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts) | Three weekends out of every six-week schedule; every other holiday required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide observation-level medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population including cardiac, neurological, post-surgical, GI/urology, and detox/CIWA patients
• Perform and document NIHSS/neuro assessments and dysphagia screenings
• Initiate and titrate drips including Heparin and Insulin; manage indwelling drains, straight cath/foley care, and NG tube insertion
• Perform cardiac cath recovery (femoral/TR bands) and post-surgical care
• Float within skillset as first to float; cross-campus float to nearby Indiana and Kentucky campuses possible with 2-hour notice
• May be required to precept students and new hires in this teaching environment

Required Qualifications

• Current, active multistate (compact) RN license required
• AHA BLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum two years of strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
• At least one prior travel assignment required
• Recent Epic EMR experience required
• Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with blood administration and documentation
• Strong cardiac assessment background including chest pain and post-cath care
• Familiarity with CVA/TIA patient management and neuro assessment protocols
• Demonstrated critical thinking and independent assessment skills in a fast-paced environment
