Key Responsibilities
- Prioritize and perform a wide variety of clinical laboratory tests on biological specimens, including chemistry, coagulation, hematology, urinalysis, blood bank, serology, immunology, microbiology, and referral testing
- Employ positive patient identification procedures to ensure specimen integrity throughout pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases
- Perform proper specimen collection (including phlebotomy as needed), labeling, handling, processing, transportation, and storage
- Review and evaluate validity and accuracy of test results, correlating findings with diagnoses and flagging incompatible results
- Perform, evaluate, and document quality control checks in accordance with prescribed quality assurance policies and procedures
- Document and communicate test results thoroughly, expediting all critical values to appropriate clinicians
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological sciences, chemical sciences, allied health technologies, or equivalent
- Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license required
- Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience
- Adherence to HIPAA and patient confidentiality guidelines
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Current certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency for Laboratories (NCA)
- Experience with EPIC electronic health records system
- 2 or more years of recent clinical laboratory experience
