Clinical Laboratory Assistant

Contract | Full-Time | Onsite | Day Shift | Variable schedule, 5 x 8-hour shifts; earliest start time 5:30 AM, latest end time 10:30 PM | No call required
Key Responsibilities
- Collect blood specimens using age-appropriate techniques and provide post-phlebotomy care to patients
- Receive, sort, and accession specimens; assess acceptability upon receipt and escalate to licensed personnel as needed per protocol
- Handle and process a variety of specimen types to prepare them for analysis while maintaining specimen integrity
- Complete computerized tasks including patient registration, test order entry into the lab information system, and generation of collection lists and labels
- Perform basic post-analytic tasks such as distributing reports and storing or retrieving specimens
- Maintain a clean, stocked, and safe work area; monitor pending work and escalate priority items as needed
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED: Required
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) license: Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification from an approved vendor: Required
- Minimum of 5 years of phlebotomy experience in an acute care environment
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Associate’s or Technical Degree, or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Familiarity with pre-analytic laboratory equipment and workflows
- Experience adhering to local, state, and federal regulations related to laboratory and patient safety
