Job Title
Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Olathe, KS | Progressive Care Unit / Step-Down
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights | 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 3 shifts per week | Every other weekend required | Holiday rotation required (one holiday per group: Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday; Christmas Eve or Christmas Day; New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day) | No on-call requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a Progressive Care / Step-Down unit with patient ratios of 3:1 to 4:1
- Manage patients with complex needs including BiPAP, chest tubes, PICC lines, and independent lab draws without a vascular access team
- Care for post-open-heart surgery patients (Day 2 or Day 3) including management of pacer wires
- Independently call on consults and conduct codes as needed
- Float to ICU and other inpatient units including Med/Surg, Med/Tele, Acute/Tele, and ED based on unit needs and prior experience
- Document and manage patient records using the EPIC EMR system
Required Qualifications
- Active Kansas RN license or valid Compact RN license
- BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent Critical Care/ICU or Emergency Department experience
- Experience with BiPAP, chest tubes, PICC lines, and independent lab draws
- Ability to practice independently without a vascular access team, including calling own consults and conducting codes
- Must be willing to float to ICU and all inpatient units with applicable prior experience
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Post-open-heart surgery patient care experience (Day 2 or Day 3), including pacer wire management
- Prior experience working in a Step-Down or Progressive Care Unit setting
- Familiarity with EPIC EMR
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to manage high-acuity patients independently
