Unit ACU – Advanced Care Unit (Stepdown)

# of beds 30-Beds – All private rooms Ratios 1 to 4

Required Certifications BLS, ACLS, NIHSS are all required

Common diagnoses/Types of patients This unit is their designated Stroke, Trauma, & Vascular unit: Fempops, Carotids, DKA, AKA, post caths w/ TR Bands & femoral access. They can have anywhere from 4-5 fresh carotids on the unit at a time. They do not pull sheaths on this unit.

Experience or ‘Must have’ skills Must have stepdown acuity experience with the types of patients on this unit & be able to read strips.

Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes

Common titratable &/or set rate drips Cardizem is titrated per Dr’s orders, Insulin, & Heparin

Floating Requirement Travelers are the 1st to float. Would float “down” to MedSurg/Tele or “up” to ICU but only for ACU status patients. Would not float to CVICU but could float to CV Stepdown.
