Unit SDU (Cost Center 1103)

 # of beds 16-Bed Telemetry Unit 

Ratios Typical ratios are 1:5 – Census varies – Manager would like 3 RN’s on every shift, so if they are full 2 RN’s might have 1:5 & 1 RN 1:6, depending on the acuity. 

Required Certifications BLS & ACLS are both required 

Common diagnoses/Types of patients Observations overnight, CP, high flow, Covid – Remdesivir, a-fib, CHF, COPD, a lot of respiratory, post-cath w/out interventions who are waiting for treatment/intervention, some post-ops w/ cardiac history, some hips & other ortho, anyone needing tele, NSTEMI, pacers, etc. 

Experience or ‘Must have’ skills Must have strong assessment skills & experience with the types of patients on this unit. 

Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes 

Common titratable &/or set rate drips Cardizem & Heparin are the only titratable drips. No Dopamine or Dobutamine. Insulin only in the ICU. 

Charge Nurse/House Supervisor They do not have a charge nurse – House supervisor 24/7 

Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios 1 LPN & 1 CNA 

RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc.) Cpap, BiPap, & High Flow per RT 

Is there tele on this unit? Monitor techs? RNs read strips? They do have 1 monitor tech on days during the week but RN’s must be able to read, interpret, & sign off strips 

Floating Requirement ICU (assigned patients within their skillset) or MedSurg with a full assignment
